Your site ranks on Google — but will AI read and cite you?

Answer 5 questions to review content clarity, structured data and sources. This tool uses your answers; it does not read a URL or measure the likelihood of AI citations.

In short

Who is this check for?

  • Marketing / Content lead

Wants articles and landing pages cited by AI Overview and ChatGPT, instead of buried under a pile of links.

  • SEO / Site owner

Worried about losing traffic to AI, and wants the brand visible right inside machine answers.

  • Developer / Agency

Needs a technical AEO checklist (schema, headings, entities) to hand off cleanly and protect their reputation.

5 groups of content review criteria

An editorial checklist, not an AI ranking formula.

  • Direct answer

Put the main answer near the start of a section, then add context where needed. No fixed length or mandatory TL;DR guarantees an AI citation.

  • Structured data (Schema)

JSON-LD describes content and authorship using appropriate types, such as Article with a Person author. It must match visible content; it is not a requirement for AI Search.

  • Structure & entities

A heading hierarchy and consistent person, brand and product names help readers and software identify the content.

  • E-E-A-T signals

State the author, actual experience, sources and meaningful update dates so readers can verify claims.

  • Extractability & language coverage

Split paragraphs by idea and use sourced facts. Translations and hreflang serve readers in each market; they do not guarantee citations.

How to use the tool

Takes about a minute, no technical knowledge needed.

  • Answer 5 questions

Each describes one AEO/GEO axis in plain language — pick the level closest to your page.

Your choices produce checklist coverage and a radar across 5 groups of criteria. The tool does not inspect the website directly.

  • Get the optimization checklist

Copy the checklist so your content/dev team can compare it with the actual content and schema before making changes.

What a checklist will not tell you

I review the checklist as a System Architect with 14 years leading delivery (PMP, CCA-F), prioritizing verifiable content and data issues for the Vietnam–Japan context.

  • I work across all three layers: technical SEO, content AEO and multilingual GEO.
  • Experience across Japan and Vietnam, with 40+ large systems designed and delivered.
  • Prioritize evidenced issues with a clear impact, rather than promising citation rates.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are AEO/GEO, and how do they differ from SEO?

AEO and GEO describe efforts to improve content and discovery in AI answer systems. For Google AI Search, the foundation is still SEO: accessible pages, indexing eligibility and useful content. There is no special schema or formula that guarantees citations.

  • How is this different from a website audit tool?

An audit checks a URL and can retrieve performance data when the measurement service is available. This tool only summarizes your self-reported content choices; it does not read the page or verify AI citations.

  • Why does a page rank on Google yet still not get cited by AI?

A ranking or this checklist cannot establish the reason. Source selection depends on the question, system and time. For Google AI Search, a page must be indexed and eligible for a snippet; missing schema does not automatically exclude it.

  • Can I assess this without technical skills?

Yes. Choose the closest description, then check the result against your actual page. If you are unsure about the schema, inspect the HTML or ask the person responsible for the site.

  • Does optimizing for AEO/GEO hurt traditional SEO?

Clear, sourced content and accurate schema generally fit SEO fundamentals. Check each change, however; do not stuff keywords, add schema that contradicts content or change canonicals just to score higher on this checklist.
